Fall and Holiday Nail Colors Suffolk County Is Booking
From October through New Year's the most requested shades at our Commack salon are deep wine reds, chocolate browns, warm nudes, forest green and cat-eye finishes that flash under the light. Below is how we see each one working, how to pair them with gel or dip, and which brands on our wall carry them.
What colors work for fall on Long Island?
Fall on the North Shore is coats, boots and Sunday pumpkin runs out past Smithtown. Nails follow the wardrobe. The shades that look right from the first cool week in October through Thanksgiving are rich and low-shine rather than bright. Think of a glass of red wine, a chestnut, a cup of chai. Short, rounded or soft almond shapes carry these colors well because the depth of the color does the talking.
The shades clients ask for most
- Wine and oxblood red. The default fall color for a reason. Works in regular polish, gel or dip, and looks sharp on every skin tone. OPI and essie both carry classic versions on our wall.
- Chocolate and espresso brown. Softer than black, warmer than gray. Pairs well with camel coats and gold jewelry. Ask for a glossy top coat so it does not read flat.
- Warm nude and mocha. The office-safe choice from Dix Hills to Hauppauge. A gel French manicure in a warm nude with a soft white tip is one of our most requested combinations in autumn.
- Forest and bottle green. Unexpected in October, perfect by December. Looks best in gel where the pigment stays deep and glossy.
- Cat-eye. Our Double Rhythm Iridescent Shadow collection is a magnetic gel that forms a shifting band of light across the nail. It reads like velvet in daylight and like a gemstone indoors. This is the finish people stop to ask about.
- Burgundy with a glitter accent. One or two glitter nails over a deep base is the easiest way to move from a fall set into a holiday set without a full change.
What changes for the holidays?
After Thanksgiving the same deep palette gets a little more shine. Clients from East Northport and across Suffolk County add chrome powder, a fine gold or silver glitter on the ring finger, or switch the cat-eye to a red or emerald base so it catches party lighting. True red, the kind that matches a holiday card, comes back in a big way for the last two weeks of December. If you have a specific dress or event, bring a photo and we will match it off the wall.
Gel, dip or regular polish for a seasonal color?
If you want the color to carry you from one family dinner to the next, choose gel ($35) or dip powder ($45). Both hold deep pigments without fading, and gel is the only way to get the cat-eye effect. If you like changing shades every week or two with the weather, a regular manicure ($15) gives you the freedom to try the whole wall. Dark colors show chips sooner than nudes, so keep cuticle oil handy and book a nail repair ($5) if a nail chips before an event.
How to pick from 247 shades without overthinking it
Pull three bottles, not ten. Hold each one against the inside of your wrist in natural light near our front window, not under the lamp. Pick the one you keep coming back to. If you are between two, go a touch darker for fall and a touch brighter for the holidays. And if you really cannot decide, tell us the coat or dress you wear most this season and we will narrow it down for you in under a minute.
Matching toes and hands
Boot season means toes are optional, but a matching gel pedicure ($40), or a Relax Stress spa pedicure ($55) in a lavender, coffee or milk & honey scent, is a nice way to warm up on a cold afternoon. Many clients keep hands in a deep fall color and toes in a classic red through New Year's so they are ready for any party shoe.
